More Egg Product Seizures Than Fentanyl Seizures at the Border So Far This Year — “The San Diego Field Office Has Seen a 158% Increase in Egg Interceptions”

This year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has seized more egg products than the drug fentanyl at U.S. borders. Many egg seizures occurred due to bird flu. This illness hurt chickens, leading to egg shortages and high prices.
In fiscal year 2025, officials stopped 5,572 cases of egg products at the border. This is far more than the 413 times they seized fentanyl. The San Diego office alone saw egg seizures jump by 158% from last year.
Many people didn't know it's illegal to bring fresh eggs, raw chicken, or live birds from other countries like Mexico into the U.S. This rule helps stop bird diseases from spreading, which can make the egg shortage worse.
CBP warns that moving these egg products and other bird items can spread dangerous bird viruses. Diseases like the Virulent Newcastle disease can kill birds and are a big reason for these rules.
The rules are strict: you can't bring in fresh eggs or certain other bird products from countries with bird flu or similar diseases. There are some exceptions for items that are packaged, labeled, and checked.
CBP is teaching travelers about egg rules. This helps keep people and chickens safe from disease outbreaks.
WEIGHT LOSS
I’ve Officially Lost 100lbs

At 316 pounds, Bridget Nieves knew it was time for a big change. A married mom of two, Bridget struggled with her weight her whole life, often gaining and losing the same 20 pounds. Her turning point came on June 6, 2020, after hearing a news report. It said that being very overweight was a big risk for serious problems from COVID-19. Worried about her kids growing up without their mom, Bridget decided to act.
With all the gyms closed, Bridget looked at other options and decided to buy a spin bike. Though it was expensive, she viewed it as investing in her health. The bike would take two months to arrive, but Bridget didn’t wait to start losing weight. She began watching what she ate and walking with her kids, quickly losing 30 pounds.
After 11 months, Bridget had lost 103 pounds. She says her success came from changing her lifestyle, not just dieting. She learned to control her calories and still enjoy her favorite foods by planning her meals. She stopped thinking of foods as "good" or "bad" and started seeing them as part of her daily calorie count.
Bridget’s story shows that with determination and a commitment to oneself, making big health changes is possible. She focuses on self-care, setting aside time every day for her health, which makes her a better mom. Her journey is about more than losing weight; it's about gaining a healthier life.

'I'm Worried It's Getting Worse': Texas Measles Outbreak Grows as Families Resist Vaccination

In Texas, a measles outbreak is getting serious. Since late January, there have been 355 confirmed cases. This virus has spread beyond Texas, affecting at least three states. Katherine Wells, Lubbock's public health director, voiced her worries. She said, "I’m worried it’s getting worse."
Many people aren’t getting tested, and there’s little enthusiasm for vaccination efforts. Despite efforts to boost vaccination, Wells fears it could be a year before the outbreak is under control. The disease has spread to 14 Texas counties, infecting mainly unvaccinated children and teenagers. At least 40 people have been hospitalized, and tragically, a child in Texas and an adult in New Mexico have died.
The epicenter of the outbreak, Gaines County, has a high rate of vaccine exemptions. People doubt vaccines, thinking they cause autism. This false belief has slowed efforts to control the virus.
Measles is highly contagious. It spreads easily through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. People can spread the virus before they even show symptoms, which makes controlling an outbreak challenging. Symptoms include a high fever, cough, and a rash that spreads over the body.
The key to stopping the spread of measles is vaccination. Two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine are 97% effective. During outbreaks, doctors may give the second vaccine dose earlier than usual to help protect children.
Health officials nationwide urge everyone to get vaccinated. This helps protect yourself and stops the outbreak from spreading further.
Type 2 Diabetes Increases Risk of Liver and Pancreatic Cancers, Study Shows | Chance of Developing Some of the Most Lethal Tumours Up to Five Times Higher in Women Recently Diagnosed With Condition

A new study reveals that women who just found out they have type 2 diabetes are much more likely to get serious cancers like liver and pancreatic cancer. Women with diabetes have a five times higher risk of liver cancer. They are also nearly twice as likely to get pancreatic cancer compared to those without diabetes.
The research looked at health records of 95,000 people. Men with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes face higher risks. Their chances of pancreatic cancer go up by 74%. They are also nearly four times more likely to get liver cancer.
The study was done by the University of Manchester and used data from the UK Biobank. It compared 23,750 people who just found out they have diabetes with over 70,000 who don’t have it. Researchers found that after a diabetes diagnosis, people often get diagnosed with cancer. This happens because they undergo more health tests.
The study helps us understand that diabetes might increase cancer risk due to high insulin levels, lots of blood sugar, and constant inflammation. It also suggested that differences in hormones and how the body responds to insulin might play a role.
This research is important because it helps us learn how diabetes might lead to cancer. Knowing this can help us find better ways to prevent, spot, and treat cancer, especially for people with diabetes. The study’s results will be discussed at a big health conference in Spain soon.
