Green Tea Trains Muscles to Handle Sugar Better and Boost Metabolism | Mice Receiving Green Tea Had Significantly Improved Glycemic Control, Suggesting That Green Tea Boosts Metabolic Function

New research shows that green tea may help the body process sugar better and improve metabolism—even without exercise or weight loss. In a recent study, scientists in Brazil gave mice a high-fat diet, similar to what many people eat today. After four weeks, they added green tea extract to the diet of some mice.
The results were striking. Mice that received green tea had lower blood sugar, better insulin response, and healthier muscles. Their muscle cells were better at using sugar for energy, which helped prevent damage from the high-fat diet.
Green tea also increased certain genes in the muscles—ones that help move sugar into cells and burn it for energy. This means the tea didn’t just affect weight; it helped the body work better at a cellular level.
The researchers found that a hormone called adiponectin played a key role. Mice that couldn't make this hormone didn’t benefit from green tea. This suggests that the tea works with the body’s natural systems to improve health.
It’s important to note that the study used a strong, lab-quality green tea extract. Most store-bought teas vary in strength and quality. Still, drinking green tea regularly—like people in Japan do—may offer long-term health benefits.
While more research in humans is needed, this study adds to the growing evidence that green tea can support better blood sugar control and muscle function.

Eli Lilly to Build $6.5 Billion Texas Manufacturing Facility for Obesity Pill, Other Drugs

Eli Lilly is investing $6.5 billion to build a new drug manufacturing plant in Houston, Texas. This large project will help the company produce more medicines, including its new experimental obesity pill called orforglipron.
This is one of four new U.S. plants the company plans to build. All four are expected to start making medicine within the next five years. Lilly has already spent over $23 billion on U.S. manufacturing since 2020 and plans to invest at least $27 billion more.
The new plant in Houston will focus on small molecule drugs. These are usually pills that are easier to take than injections. In addition to the obesity drug, the facility will also make medications for heart disease, cancer, immune disorders, and brain health.
The goal is to increase supply of orforglipron, which could help treat obesity and type 2 diabetes. Demand for these kinds of drugs is growing fast, and Eli Lilly wants to stay ahead of the competition.
The plant will also bring jobs to the area—615 permanent roles for engineers, lab workers, and other staff, plus 4,000 construction jobs.
This move comes as drug companies work to bring more production back to the U.S., especially with the risk of tariffs on imported medicines.

Natural Sweetener Stevia Found to Turbocharge Male Pattern Baldness Treatment: Mice Given Stevia Patch Had 18 Times Better Absorption of Minoxidil and Hair Coverage of 67.5% in Bald Areas After Just 35 Days. That's Significantly Better Than the Usual 3 to 6 Months to Produce New Hair in Humans

A new study has found that Stevia, a natural sweetener, may help improve treatment for male pattern baldness. Researchers tested a patch made with microneedles from Stevia and the hair growth drug minoxidil. In just 35 days, mice treated with the patch regrew hair on about 67.5% of bald areas. That’s much faster than the usual 3 to 6 months it takes for humans using standard minoxidil.
Male pattern baldness affects most men as they age, often starting as early as their 20s. Minoxidil is a common treatment, but it doesn't absorb well through the skin. That’s where the Stevia-based microneedle patch comes in.
The patch uses tiny dissolvable needles made from stevioside, the sweet part of the Stevia plant. These needles deliver the drug deep into the skin. In the study, mice using this patch absorbed 18 times more minoxidil than those who used a regular patch.
Older types of microneedle patches used metal and sometimes caused skin irritation. But the Stevia needles dissolve naturally and don’t leave behind residue. This makes them gentler and more comfortable.
The researchers say this method could make hair regrowth easier and more effective for men in the future. The patch delivers a steady dose, right where it’s needed, and may help avoid the slow results and dosing issues of current treatments.
While this research was done on mice, it offers hope for better baldness treatments down the line.

Low-cost Ketamine Treatment for Depression Found to Be Effective Long Term, Offering a Cheaper Alternative to Patented Ketamine Treatments

A new study shows that a low-cost version of ketamine can help people with severe depression—and it works long-term.
The study looked at 65 people who had tried at least two antidepressants that didn’t help. These patients were given generic ketamine, either by mouth or injection, for up to six months. Many started feeling better within the first two months. By six months, 44% had better moods, and 26% were in remission. Suicidal thoughts and overall quality of life also improved.
This generic ketamine only costs $5 to $20 per dose. The name-brand version, called Spravato, can cost up to $900 per dose, but is covered by insurance in Australia. The generic kind is not. That means fewer people can afford it, even though it works just as well.
Doctors used a safety checklist before and after each dose. Most people had no serious side effects. There were no signs of misuse or addiction.
Experts say ketamine could be the biggest breakthrough in depression treatment in 80 years. But since the generic version has no big drug company backing it, there’s no easy way to get it approved for full insurance coverage.
“This treatment gives hope to people who feel like nothing else has worked,” said Dr. Colleen Loo, one of the lead researchers.
More studies are planned to help make this low-cost option available to more people.
